    1702 (Nov 3): Entire letter, original written on Oct 7th, mailed from Madeira to London during War of the Grand Alliance, with manuscript "Forwarded by 13 Dec 1702, Saml & Jos. Clarke" (thus probably at Amsterdam) with London Bishop Mark on reverse "DE/16" in black and charged 3 shillings to pay. An interesting letter: "We have no notice how matter stand between us and Portugal nor whether our Grand Fleete gone. Our hopes are that these people will be neutral..". Portugal joined the Alliance with the League of Augsburg, Denmark and the Netherlands against France & Spain.

    1791 (Sept 27): Large part entire letter from Lisbon, Portugal to Herrnhut, Saxony with manuscript 'fco Leipzig' at left with manuscript, placed into the post in Leipzig and struck in transit with italic "Von Altona" (Feuser 82-3) in black, with large red crayon '2' (groschen) for Leipzig to Herrnhut and ink '2¼' groschen due including local delivery charge.

    1862/64: Luis 50 r. green, the extraordinary usage of twenty-four examples (equivalent to a complete sheet) in two horizontal strips of four (the width of the sheet), two vertical strips of three, two horizontal pairs and four single examples used on large piece with 25 r. carmine-rose pair and 1855/56 100 r. lilac, straight hair, single and horizontal strip of three, for a combined rate of 1'650 reis, all tied by bold strikes of "86" numeral obliterators with corresponding despatch handstamp of framed LOUZÃ in black. An amazing franking with nearly all stamps with margins all round, representing the largest usage of the 50 r. green and the sole recorded three colour mixed issue franking. A particularly wonderful showpiece for the connoisseur of classic Portuguese philately.

    Portuguese India 1872: 20 r. vermilion on white wove paper, a fine example in a bright shade, used on 1873 cover to Margão tied by "1" numeral obliterator of Pangim. Reverse with two strikes of Pangim despatch cds dated 1st and 2nd of July: with framed INSUFFICIENTE and (Too late) CHEGOU / TARDE octagonal handstamp in black. Manuscript above '0.0.40' for amount due, Margão arrival cds (July 4) on front. Typical imperfections to the envelope and vertical file fold but an attractive and scarce usage.

    Portuguese India 1873: 20 r. vermilion, re-issue on bluish wove paper, a fine example with scissor cut margins, used with India ½ a. blue on 1874 combination cover over to Damaun tied by "1" numeral obliterator of Pangim and by oval 'India Portugueza / Pangim' despatch (23/6) with Balgaum (25/6), Bombay (27/6) and Damaun (28/6) datestamps on reverse. Red Cross perforated POW label applied in transit in Lisbon and tied by Lisbon datestamp (29/5), Reseal Censor of French Military authorities at left and Horsens arrival on reverse (23/6).     Portuguese India 1871/1960ca: Collection hundreds stamps used/unused incl. 1871 Numeral issue up to 900 r. violet, specialized collected for different papers and types, section includes 1876 local cover from Dia via Pangim to Benaulim in the Goa region bearing 20 r. red tied by '2' numeral obliterator, 1877 Crown definitives in diff. perfs., 1881 Numeral and Crown definitives with new denominations, a large variety of these rare overprints, 1882 Tanga Crown definitives, later definitive and commemorative issues, several also with SPECIMEN ovpts., in addition stationery postcards and letter cards, several covers and postcards. A solid collection of this rarely offered area, two certs., mounted on sheets, well written up.
