    Natal 1862 ((Feb 6): Cover from Pietermarizburg to French Island, via Schnapper Point, Victoria, Australia franked by 1861/62 rought perf. 3 d. blue (2) lightly cancelled by obliteraators in black  witht 'Pietermaritzburg' cds below in black. Carried by private ship, the cover bears a Melbourne arrival cds (May 6) in red on reverse and docketing of receipt in manuscript (May 11). An attractive and scarce cover to an unusual destination.

    Note: Reverse shows docketing notes with queries to raise: 'breed of sheep', 'no man's land - where is it', 'free state too far if 400 miles', 'would it pay to cultivate tobacco or cotton'...
