    Great Britain 1853 (March 23): Cover from Brighton to Sydney, NSW, Australia franked by 1841 2 d. blue, pl. 4, in a horizontal strip of four lettered LI-LL, pre-paying the Private Ship rate ('6' in manuscript is the GB credit) all tied by 132 obliterators in black. Fine circular Crown SHIP LETTER / LONDON in red at left. Reverse with Brighton, London and Sydney datestamps (Sept 1) and scarce framed COOKS RIVER handstamp in red-brown. The cover then struck with ADVERTISED / UNCLAIMED in black and manuscript 'Not Called For' at top left, with credit altered to '5' (pence). Small imperfections but an exotic and appealing cover.
