Russian Levant 1868: 10 kopek carmine & green, a fine example used on 1869 cover from Galatz to Taganrog, tied by Cyrillic GALATZ datestamp (Nov 3) and by dotted obliterator, both struck in in bright blue ink. Reverse with further fine strike of the Russian P.O. in Galatz datestamp (Tchilinghirian fig. 49) and front showing Odessa transit datestamp in black (Nov 4). Despite a small horizontal tear at top left, a rare cover, offered as is Tel quel! Illustrated in Edition D'Or on page 167. Provenance: Collection Dr. Sladowsky, Köhler sale 225 (October 1978), lot 4676.r Note: It is interesting that the Russian Post Office in Galatz remained open after the Romanian-Russian bilateral Treaty of November 1867.
