1380 (Aug 15): Entire letter from Filippo Dacca di Pesaro, serving on a ship (galley) of War marauding in the Adriatic Sea, written from Rhodes (Rodi) and sent to his uncle in Venice probably by way of Parenzo in Istria, with bold family Guild sign on address panel. Fascinating letter in Italian with full translation in English accompanying the lot - "We landed about Aug 1 at Capo D'Istria. There were 400 of the Patriach's men in the town but we captured the place without loss ... a number of traitors were given up and put to death ... we grappled with three Genoese galleys and came so close to one of them that her shots passed over our poop deck ... after I had written the above we stormed a place called Selessia, we then went on to Segna which we took by storm and sacked, we found iron, brass and timber there ...". A fascinating letter describing the constant War between the Venetians and Genoes.
