1851: Remarkable tiny entire letter (63 x 33 mm.) with embossed colourless illustration of lady on horseback with wreathed "TO" below, endorsed "per Express" addressed to "J.C. Kindman, Present" and reverse with paper seal reading "IF YOU NEGLECT ME YOU LOSE ME". The love letter enclosed reads: "Agawam¹ '51, Tues. Eve; My dear Charles, Are you still in the land of the living? If so, permit me who am so much the younger of the twain to speak a word to thee. Why in the world do we not either see you, hear from you, or let us know the reason why? Do you know how it grieves me to see you so negligent? Oh! Charles! "You'll break my heart, I fear you will, if you continue so" ² If you do not write soon I fear you will never receive another such a long letter from me as this. Yours to the end, Hannah".rn1.
