Crash Mail 1920: Handley Page Pioneering Flight "Crash" mail, advertising envelope with enclosed letter, sent from Muizenberg to Johannesburg, dated 13th February 1920, flight left Cape Town 15th February 1920 and crashed near Beaufort West, franked with Union of South Africa vertical pair 1 s. covering the air fee of 2s and 1 d. postage, tied by datestamp 13 February, with flight cachet in red "CARRIED BY / AEROPLANE" alongside and endorsed "Per Aerial Post", the enclosed note on Marine Hotel headed paper dated 14th February 1920, "First Aerial Post in South Africa - leave C.T.
