    1848: Folded lettersheet, approximately 247 x 199 mm., white wove paper with double-lined watermark "J. WHATMAN / TURKEY MILL / 1848", centrally embossed before folding with "GENERAL POST OFFICE / (Royal Arms) / SYDNEY / NEW SOUTH WALES", addressed to "J.W. Smart, Esq. / Sydney", without message or postal markings, a rare pre-stamped stationery precursor, believed to be the unique example on this paper, light filing folds and barest trace of edge toning, very fine and rare.
