Stamps of German Marshall Islands surcharged 1914 (16 Dec): GRI and Value 5 mm. apart, 2 d. on 10 pf. carmine, Setting 11, position 5, a used example with the variety 'Double surcharge, one inverted' of excellent colour and superb perforation, cancelled by oval RABAUL datestamp in violet. Ten examples of this very rare variety are known by Gibbs, however only this used one, certs.
