Stamps of German New Guinea surcharged 1914 (17 Oct): GRI and Value 4 mm. apart, 5 s. on 5 m. carmine & black, Setting 3, an incomplete overprint, position type 4, a used example of deep colour and good centering, tied by oval "RABAUL JUN 18 1915 NEW BRITAIN" datestamp (Gibbs type 8) in violet to envelope directed to Sydney. Minor toning, nevertheless a very rare stamp with just 102 examples of the 5 mark overprinted.
