    1841 (Jan 8): Entire letter from Melbourne to London endorsed 'per Deva', struck with framed "PAID AT / MELBOURNE" in red with circular "MELBOURNE / NSW" in black and somewhat over-struck by London straight line SHIP LETTER in black, with arrival cds in red (May 9) and manuscript '8' (pence) Ship Letter fee to pay. Interesting content: "I regret to inform you I am not in a position to honour (your draft) having been involved in the universal commercial panic which has surged this place and Sydney in common with the rest of the Australian Colonies, I have been compelled to stop payment...stock has been greatly depreciated".
