Provisional Perforations 1863/71: 4 d. blue perf. 10 and 6 d. slate-violet perf. 12, used examples, perforated by J. Walch & Sons of Hobart under contract from the Post Office, on 1870 cover to Watford, England endorsed "via Marseilles", tied by "73" numeral obliterators of Prosser's Plains. Manuscript "Buckland 5.9.70" Postmaster's endorsement at left and Hobart "PRE-PAID" datestamp of transit in red. The "via Marseilles" route was closed due to the Franco-Prussian War and the cover was struck with framed "INSUFFICIENTLY PREPAID / FOR BRINDISI ROUTE / DEFICIENT POSTAGE 3d." applied in black on arrival (Oct 31). Flap faults on reverse but a rare and attractive cover.rnrnNote: Prosser's Plains was officially re-named Buckland in 1884. It appears however that the name was in use much before that date.rnrnProvenance: Prestige, Melbourne, 17 Oct 2008, lot 462.Ausruf : 850 CHFZuschlag : 5.000 CHF
