1840: 1 d. red-brown on blued, Black plate 5, state 2 pre-provisional printing in red, lettered PB, a used example with close to large margins all round and showing adjoining stampsat left and at top, on 1841 cover from Oxford to London tied by Maltese Cross in black. An extraordinary usage of this stamp, the lettering PB from plate 5 is from the pre-provisional printing undertaken in late December 1840, according to the Karl Louis card index the sole recorded cover bearing the state 2.
