B.O.A.C. Crash of Short S25 Sunderland Flying Boat 'G-AGES' from Nigeria - Lisbon - (Foynes) at Mount Brandon 1943 (July 28): Fine P.o.W. correspondence of 20 cards or envelopes concerning Seaman Bobbie Mc Gee Prisoner of War at Tandjongpriol Camp near Batavia (1943/44) of which two similar to his wife Jean (Joan) in Glasgow, including 'DAMAGED BY / FIRE IN TRANSIT' purple cachet applied on two Japanese P.o.W. cards, both safed at the Mount Brandon, 1941/42 envelopes (6) addressed to Bobby McGee, bearing 'Return to Sender on Admiralty Instructions' missing report labels, further censored covers (9) sent from his wife Jean McGee in Glasgow to Japanese Red Cross in Tokyo as well as two British P.o.W. stationery cards addressed to Robert Mc Gee in 'Malaya Camp' (1944). Seaman Bobby McGee, serving on H.M.S.Sultan, the land based Naval HQ at Singapore, was captured in the Banka Straits and was reported dead by the Japanese by error. History at it's Best!
