    British P.O. in Malta 1865-67: 4d. deep vermillion, Plate 12 in combination with 1867-80 3d. rose, two left wing marginal examples, one margin cut, fine and fresh examples in vibrant deep colour, well perforated, the 3d. adhesives separated by scissor cuts, tied by "MALTA SP 8 71 / A25" duplex datestamp. "LONDON PAID" transit cds (Sept 15, 71), "BOSTON PAID" arrival cds (Sept 22) and US '2 cents' due handstamp, all in red alongside, on entire letter "via Italy" to Boston. A most attractive combination to pay the 10d. rate from Malta to the United States, where the receiver had to pay 2 cents for the inland part of the journey.
