    Ballon monté 1870 (Oct 24): Envelope with full content on extremely thin paper carried on board of balloon no. 18 'Le Montgolfier' to Strasbourg, endorsed "par la voie de Suisse", franked with Napoléon laureated 20 c. blue type II in a horizontal pair and 10 c. bistre, a single adhesive, fresh and fine adhesives with vivid colour and good perforation, tied lightly by Étoile de Paris '35' obliterator with perfect "PARIS MINISTERE DES FINANCES" despatch cds and framed PD in red alongside. Envelope torn at left with the content intact, very attractive item Maury = € 3'500 + 175.rnNote: The franking is rather arbitrary, maybe including 30 c. to Switzerland and additional 20 c. for the inland part. The sender writes to his mother to which he had no contact for some time, Strasbourg was occupied by German troops on September 27, 1870.
