    1822 (May 15): Entire letter from Panama to Boston, USA written in English with fascinating contents: "I think to bring home with me 5 or 6 thousand dollars if nothing should happen...this City is a place of considerable consequence in regard of business as soon as some vessels double Cape Horn the distance by land from the Atlantic to the Persific is only 21 miles. Business is flourishing from all parts of the United States...the Brig will in all probability be at Porto Bello by the 25th of this month, I shall close my business on her arrival...". The entire rated '12' in red manuscript and struck with NEW-YORK cds in red (July 15). A rare cover.
