    French Shipmail towards or from the Americas 1853/54: Entire letter from Le Havre to Rio de Janeiro, endorsed "par Steamer du Brésil Tamar", bearing a most attractive four-colour franking of Napoléon imperforated 10 c. bistre type I, 20 c. blue type I, 40 c. orange 'sur paille' and 80 c. dark carmine 'sur paille', four fresh and fine examples with good to large margins, tied by clear Petits Chiffes '1495' lozenges. Despatch  "BUREAU MARITIME LE HAVRE 6 OCT 56" cds and framed "P.P.", both in red alongside. Reverse with London & Southampton transit cds's in red and blue of the next day. Light horizontal filing folds well away from the adhesives, a most attractive and scarce usage correctly paying the 150 c. rate to Brazil with British steamer in the tariff of August 1849.rnProvenance: Köhler sale 282 (Feb 1994), lot 3403.
