    1897: ½ c. on 3 ca. yellow-brown in an interpanneau pair, 1 c. on 1 ca. vermilion and 4 c. on 4 ca. rose-pink in a vertical pair all tied to 1899 cover (with handstruck "H.B.M. Consulate / G.M.H. Playfair" in violet with manuscript "Ningpo" below) to France by "NINGPO" Dollar Chops (March 4) in black, "SHANGHAI" Dollar Chop of transit alongside (March 5). Obverse with Hong Kong 1891 10 c. purple on red (Gi 38) tied by "Shanghai" cds (March 6) for onward transmission. Carried on French Steamer "Sydney" with "Ligne N / Paq. Fr. No. 6" octagonal datestamp on reverse. Slight flap tear but an attractive and very scarce combination usage.
