    1846: Cover and complete original contents from Liverpool to New York, with superb vignette of the 'Tower of London' with the Thames in the fore-ground, struck on despatch with octagonal framed PAID AT / LIVERPOOL datestamp (Aug 3) in red and "1/-" handstamp denoting pre-payment in red. Carried on the Cunard Steamer 'Caledonia' with BOSTON / SHIP datestamp of lading (Aug 19) in red. Some splits to the letter but a remarkable and most appealing cover.rnrnNote: The contents are interesting, besides the usual moans about sea-sickness, "there were more than a thousand deaths in London last week and many reports now in circulation that the Asiatic Cholera had made its appearance..." and tourism - British Museum, East India Museum, Westminster Abbey and the Houses of Parliament, Eton College and Windsor Castle - and speed of transport "On friday I left London for this place (Liverpool), nearly 200 miles distant, and arrived here that evening".
