    1873 (Aug 31): Great Britain 1865 4 d. vermilion pl. 9, used on 1873 entire letter from St. Thomas to Carúpano, Venezuela endorsed 'via La Guaira' tied by "C51" obliterator in black (the latest recorded date of use). On arrival in La Guaira Venezuela 1873 1 r. vermilion (Scott 38) applied for forwarding to Carúpano tied by over-inked 'La Guaira' handstamp in black. Illustrated in Parmenter & Gordon on page 6/23. An exceptional and very rare usage, the sole example we have recorded.rnProvenance: Collection Charles Alfred Warren, Harmers, London, 11-13 Nov 1974, lot 774 (confirmed by RPSL cert. 1952 which has since gone lost).
