    1881 (Jan 7): De La Rue Colour Trial Proof for the proposed new typographed Keyplate issue, the block of twelve (6 x 2) of the 1 d. value printed in pale violet (as utilised for the 1 shilling value) in the tête-bêche format with sheet margins at top and at base showing GRENADA also in tête-bêche format, watermaked Crown CA, perforated 14 with each stamp overprinted CANCELLED (Samuel Type D7) in purple with manuscript in margins 'Make plate D, 60 set thus'. Fresh colours and extremely fine with full unmounted og. A 'one-off' of the Keyplate design, submitted to the Crown Agents on Dec 23, 1881 "to illustrate the character of the work we could throw into the stamps". Illustrated in "The De La Rue Collection" edited by Frank Walton RDP on page 3635 and discussed by Marcus Samuel in 'Specimen Stamps of the Crown Colonies' on page 121.
