    1862: 4 d. dull rose, perf. 11½, 12 compound with 11, a used example in splendid quality, position 60 from lower right corner of the sheet, used on "Royal Victoria Hotel / Nassau, Bahamas / John S. Howell Propr." coloured advertising envelope to New York tied by "A05" obliterator in black. Reverse with double arc 'Bahamas' despatch cds (Sept 27) in black and front with "New York Ship Letter / " charge marking of receipt (Oct 4). A wonderful and iconic cover, certainly the first recorded usage of this stamp on letter and possibly unique thus. Cert.
