1870 (Dec 30): Mourning envelope from Blangy du Calvados to a French Prisoner of War in Erfurt, Prussia franked with Bordeaux 20 c. blue type II report 2 with fair to large margins (touched at top left), tied by light '491' Gros Chiffre numeral cancel with BLANCHY DU CALVADOS (30 DEC 70) cds in black and framed PD in red alongside. Reverse with Cherbourg à Paris railway cds and Prussian Ausgabe cds (15 / 1). The cover shows handwritten endorsement "voie de Belgique" and "Port étranger" note pointing to the fact that only the Prussian part of the journey was franked with a stamp while the PD handstamp shows that the postage-free mailing within France to a French POW abroad was accepted by the postal authorities.
