    1881 (Feb 12): Great Britain 1870 1½ d. lake-red pl. 3 used with 1880 1 s. orange-brown pl. 13 on 1881 cover from Valparaiso to Paris endorsed 'via Panama', the 1½ d. lightly tied (and cancelled by Calais transit to prevent re-use), the 1 shilling superbly tied by "C30" obliterator with 'Valparaiso' cds alongside (Feb 12) in black. Reverse with London cds in red (March 30) and Paris arrival. Fresh and very fine, a rare usage: the following month Chile joined the UPU and British stamps ceased to be sold in Chile.
