    1868 (Dec 3): Small envelope mailed at British P.O. to France struck with fine "♚ / PAID / AT / VALPARAISO." (with stop) in red in lieu of stamps due to size of envelope, prepaid '1/7d.' in manuscript red ink. Double arc 'Valparaiso' cds on reverse (Dec 3) in black. 'London / Paid' transit cds (Jan 13, 1869) and oval 'PD' applied and thence via Cherbourg and the cover redirected to the Naval addressee in Toulon.
