Vancouver Island 1868 (Sept): Great Britain 1864 1 d. red pl. 79 and 1865/67 6 d. lilac pl. 6 used on 1868 cover from 'HMS Scout' at Esquimalt, Vancouver to Torquay endorsed 'Pd. England' at top, tied by bold strike of "D61" barred obliterator in black. Carried on the RMS 'Tasmanian' which docked at Plymouth on Sept 29. Reverse with Torquay arrival cds (Sept 29) in black. The envelope was written to the sister of William E. Fitzgerald, an Officer on board HMS Scout, at this time at Esquimalt. Naval and Official mail from Vancouver Island was directed to W.L. Booker, Consul & British Post Office Agent in San Francisco, thence routed via Panama and Colon.
