Small Star, an imperforate Proof with ample to large margins, with manuscript "Specimen" in ink; 1863: De La Rue Proof, 1 d. value in carmine-red, imperforate on unwatermaked paper without gum, of beautiful rich colour. Note the lower right corner ornament without continuation of the lower frame line; 1861 3 d. blue, no wmk. intermediate perf. 14-16, a fine used block of four of excellent colour and centering, cancelled by Pietermaritzburg datestamps in black; 1863/65 1 d. brown-red, wmk. Crown CC, perf. 12½, an unused example of good colour and centering, with large part og.; Overprinted 'Postage' by Keith & Co. 1869 (Aug 23) 1 s. green, wmk. Crown CC, perf. 14, optd. 'POSTAGE.' Type 7e, Second Setting, an unused example of fresh colour with large part og.; 1876 1 d. rose-red, overprinted POSTAGE (Type 18, 14½ mm.) by Davis & Sons in black, a used example variety "Overprint Inverted", cancelled in black; 1877/79 Locally surcharged 1 d. on 6 d. rose, a used example with variety: "Surcharge Applied Four Times", cancelled by numeral obliterator in black; and 1902/03 £ 10 green & orange and £ 20 red & green, unused examples, each overprinted SPECIMEN in black and also overprinted upon receipt from the UPU by a Portuguese Colony with ULTRAMAR in violet, unused without gum, imperfections and aging due to their original storage but rare.
