    1840: Mulready 2 d. blue envelope, stereo a196, a late usage addressed to J. W. Palmer at 281 Strand, struck with LONDON W.C. squared circle datestamp (March 11, 1886) in black and charged "2" to pay as originally unaccepted as believed to be a forgery of the 1840 envelope. Manuscript "Charged in error. The stamp and envelope being genuine. F.H., Postmaster, W.C. District". Reverse with 'London W.C. / S.M.P.' cds's in black (March 11). Fresh and fine, a very scarce and attractive usage.rnrnNote: Joseph William Palmer (1853-1931) was a stamp dealer from the 1870's onwards, and in the Strand from 1882.
