    Alexandrette 1853 (Jan 19): Unpaid Entire missionary letter written in Mardin, sent by messenger to Alexandrette and despatched from there to Lyon, struck with superb cursive "Alexandrette" handstamp in black (Pothion = 28 points), framed "PAQUEBOTS DE LA MEDITERRANEE" in red alongside, reverse with Beirut and Marseille transit as well as Lyon arrival cds's (March 3). Manuscript '10' décimes due had to be paid by the addressee. An early usage of this rare strike, as the post office was not opened earlier than August 1852, an attractive cover. Cert.
