    1840: 1 d. black, Plate 1b, lettered AA/BA, variety "Inverted Watermark", a vertical pair with enormous margins all round and portion of two adjoining stamps at right, of good colour and cancelled by two strikes of the Maltese Cross in red. A superb and scarce multiple, vertical pairs being considerably scarcer than horizontal: whilst a block of four and a strip of four of this variety on cover exist, a pair is the next largest multiple known and this must rate as the finest.
