    Austrian Lloyd Agency in Aleppo, Syria 1856 (March 8): Entire letter from Alexandretta to Aleppo, struck on arrival in Aleppo with large circular intaglio seal handstamp (Tchilinghirian fig. 1) with Roman ".L.A." at top, the inscription reading "From the Austrian Post Aleppo, 1855". This seal cancellation was withdrawn during 1856, possibly due to Ottoman complaints. Illustrated in Hans Smith 'The Austrian Post Offices in the Levant' on page 5.
