    1848 (April 17): Entire letter written from Buenos Aires during the Anglo-French blockade of the Port (which effectively closed Buenos Aires for nearly five years), endorsed at left "per Spider Pkt." (a 10 gun Naval Brig operating in the River Plate) and transferred to the 'Crane' at Rio de Janeiro. Struck on arrival in Falmouth by a truly outstanding strike of "BUENOS AYRES / O" fleuron handstamp in red, where rated '2/7d.' in manuscript to pay on arrival.
