Combination Cover 1879: Cover endorsed at lower left ‘Free, F.M.J.Hutchinson, 4th King's Own Regiment’ addressed to his father, Colonel Hutchinson in London, mailed from "Sekukuni" and endorsed at left, franked by Transvaal 1878 6 d. olive-black tied in manuscript by receiver’s notation “extract from Despatch enclosed” and by Cape 1864/77 1 d. carmine in a horizontal pair and single 4 d. blue (Gi 29+30) tied by ‘Cape-Town / Cape Colony’ duplexes in black (Dec 25). Reverse with London arrival cds (Jan 23, 1880) in black. Closed opening tear on reverse, some edge wear of no significance, a fascinating and rare cover.rnrnNote: Hutchinson was recommended for the Victoria Cross for his conspicuous gallantry at the Battle of Ulundi.
