    'Mafeking Besieged' on Stamps of Cape of Good Hope 1900 (March 24): Surcharged 3 d. on 1 d. carmine, 1 d. on ½ d. vermilion and 1 s. on 4 d. green & purple-brown of Bechuanaland Protectorate with 6 d. on 3 d. lilac & black of British Bechuanaland all used on O.H.M.S. cover addressed to "L.V.Guttenberg, C Troop, D Squadron, Protectorate Regt., B.S.A. Fort, Mafeking", individually tied by MAFEKING / C.G.H. datestamps (April 13) in black. Small closed tear at top of central crease to envelope, otherwise a superb, rare and most attractive franking.
