1855/63: 4 d. blue on white paper, a strip of three with large margins all round and a block of four with close to large margins all round, slight surface scuff at lower right, all used on the famous1859 cover to Rotterdam endorsed 'per Steamer Dane / British and Foreign Rate Paid', tied by CGH obliterators in black. Reverse with oval framed FRENCH HOEK despatch datestamp (Feb 18) in black, oval CAPE TOWN transit in red (Feb 19) and CAPE TOWN / CAPE OF GOOD HOPE circular datestamp of same day. Obverse with London / Paid' cds in red and Rotterdam arrival on reverse (March 30). The address panel with addressee's name initially erased in black ink and this slightly cleaned for appearance's sake since the Sir Maxwell Joseph sale.
