1853 (July): 4 d. blue on lightly blued paper, a fine pair paying the private ship letter rate, with close to clear margins all round, used on 1856 cover to West Wittering, Chichester endorsed 'England per Devastation' and tied by CGH obliterator in black. Reverse with CAPE TOWN / CAPE OF GOOD HOPE cds in red (July 17) and Chichester arrival cds (Sept 3) in blue where charged 1 shilling to pay in manuscript.
