Competition Essays 1911 (May 31, closing date): Essay for proposed 1 d. value, hand-painted in black on thick card, 124 x 97 mm., with "Postage" at either side of vignette of Well, Wheat Sheaves and Cow, "One Penny" tablet at base and indigenous animals in corners and "Australia" at top, numbered 42 in pencil on reverse with notation '(Des)ign for Commonwealth Postage Stamp' and 'submitted in recent competition' and by James...; together with imperforate Essays (3) in green, red and blue, all as before but stamp sized in the three colours and a reduced photographic bromide of the original drawing in black; all possibly proposed by E.
