After the Siege 1871 (Feb 8): Entire letter from Paris to Spa, Belgium franked at internal rate only with 1863/67 10 c. bistre in a horizontal pair, tied by Paris Star 3 with 'Paris / Pl. de la Madeleine' cds at left. Mailed out prior to the Prussian Censorship starting and taxed on the Travelling Post Office with curved "AFFR. INSUFF. / E.2" handstamp in black and manuscript crayon '3' (décimes) due in blue. Spa arrival cds on reverse (Feb 13). A fine entire with marvellous content (transcript attached) "Was it incumbent on French correspondents, before the War, to pay the Postage of letters for Belgium? I don't know. If yes, how to do so now? If no, this letter will be forwarded...my fellow, speaking the German language, was welcome, and Prussian Soldiers, who threatened the others "zu uber den haufen schiessen" (word for word) what is to fire on the heap - were careful.
