1850 (Jan 1): 3 d. myrtle green, on soft yellowish wove paper, position 14 on the sheet of 25 subjects used with 1850 1 d. reddish rose, Plate I, horizontal pair, positions 21-22, on the famous cover to Van Diemen's Land, all tied by fine strikes of "61" numeral obliterators of Gresford. The adhesives all with four margins, the right hand 1 d. with slight surface scuff at top, otherwise all are superb. Front with 'Paid Ship Letter / Crown / Sydney' datestamp in red (May 8) and manuscript '4' (pence) for Ship fee. Reverse with 'Gresford / Crown / New S. Wales' despatch datestamp (May 6), 'Patterson / Crown / New S. Wales' oval transit datestamp (May 6) both in black and framed SHIP LETTER in black applied on arrival (June 8).
