    1873/75: Engraver's Die Proof by William Bell for the 1 d. value printed in red on very thin slightly greyish pelure paper, 25 x 30 mm., showing the incomplete Die without figure of value at lower right corner and with additional rectangular frame surround. The completion of the Die was done on the premises of the Post Office to ensure no further impressions could be made. See Geoff Kellow 'Stamps of Victoria' page 194, this Proof being similar to Purves lot 2166. Small stain at top but a fragile, charming and very rare Proof.
