Mail from Italy via French Paquebot 1862: Cover sent unpaid from Castellamare, Naples to Spetsis Island, Attica, Greece at double rate ('2' under adhesives at left), with 'Napoli Post' despatch cds's on front and reverse (Oct 27 and 29, Nov 3), presumably awaiting the Paquebot, franked on arrival with mixed issue 1861 Paris printing 2 l. olive-yellow (2) and pair of 80 l. carmine on rose in combination with 1862 early Athens printing 20 l. blue and 40 l. mauve on blued, all tied by dotted '66' numeral of Spetsis on arrival. '224' (lepta) in red manuscript for double the 112 lepta rate under the Greek / Italian Convention of 1861. Reverse with Piraeus cds (Oct 25, julian) and Athens cds (Oct 26). The cover was carried by the Paquebot 'Nausilippe' and transferred to the 'Cygnus' at Messina for the journey to Piraeus. The adhesives generally very fine for this rare franking with just the second 80 l. touched on the outer frame line. A splendid and rare cover.  Illustrated in 'Les Tarifs Helléniques' on page 168. Cert. Tseriotis (2010).
