Losnr. 700 - 210.-212. Auktion
1860: Cross of Savoy ½ tornese blue, the famous used example showing large part unidentified watermark (not from the Fleur-de-Lys or Bonaventura Tajani paper), with large even margins all round and of excellent colour, cancelled by large part 'Napoli' circular datestamp in black. The first stamp of this type ever located, the stamp featuring in an article by Emilio Diena in 'Il Corriere Filatelico' in 1934, there are now approximately six stamps with this watermark known: this being the finest so far recorded. An exceptional stamp of great rarity in the foremost quality. Signed Calves, A. Diena, E. Diena. Cert. A. Diena (1972), E. Diena (1980). Sassone = € 35'000.
Provenance: Corinphila sale 83 (September 1991), lot 3782.
