1868: Lecoq 1 d. blue-green, fine example in a rich shade with large margins on three sides and close at base, variety 'Embossed Arms Inverted' but actually an 'Inverted Frame' variety, used on December 19, 1872 cover from Callao to Lima tied by large part Callao datestamp. Reverse with Lima cds of receipt (Dec 20) in black. Both stamp and cover in excellent condition, a magnificent example of this rarity on cover, with just five such recorded by Herbert Moll on letter.
Provenance: Corinphila sale 44 (March 1957), lot 6390.
Note: All of the five usages of this stamp in the blue-green shade on letter occur in December 1872, this example dated December 19 being the second earliest known, the first cover was also from the 1957 sale (lot 6389) being used on December 13, 1872 and was recently sold again by Corinphila in the Lugón Badaracco collection. The third example was in the Piaggio collection and was dated December 23, 1872. The fourth example was used from Tacna on December 25, collection Eitner, Corinphila sale 158 (June 2009), lot 4190. The fifth example of this variety on letter is cancelled at Moquegua (collection Jaretzky).
