    1859: 20 c. 'cobalto oltramare', a fine and fresh adhesive with good to enormous margins, well embossed, tied by clear Austrian-style "Lecco 8 AGO NOTTE" datestamp (Sassone CO = 8 punti) to entire letter to Salo. Reverse with Austrian-style SALO arrival (Aug 11) cds. Attractive and most interesting usage, signed Alberto Diena; cert. Vaccari (2003).rnNote: This cover was despatched after the end of the hostilities of the Second Italian War of Independence after the preliminary peace treaty of Villafrance (July 11, 1859) but before the final peace treaty of Zürich (Nov 10, 1859). While Sardinian adhesives had been in use in Lombardy immedeately, the Austrian datestamps were used much longer and later on replaced by Sardinian ones. The "Lecco Notte" datestamp was in use until March 1860.
