Large Garter in a horizontal pair, blunted perfs., used with 1855 1 d. red-brown on blued, perf. 14, on 1857 cover to Venice, Lombardy Venetia tied by "85" numeral obliterators of Bishop's Waltham and by circular 'PD' in red. Reverse with Bishop's Waltham cds in blue (March 1), London transit in red and 'Venezia' arrival in black (March 7). An attractive cover paying the under ¼ ounce rate introduced in January 1857, this rate in use for just 13 months.
