    1863: 2 d. dull deep blue, imperforate, a slightly worn impression with clear to large margins and portions of adjoining stamps at top and at right, used on 1863 cover to Napier tied by faint strike of numeral "11" obliterator in black, 'Napier' arrival cds on front (Sept 18) in black. Stamp lifted for examination with the adhesive rubbed in the top margin. A very scarce stamp on letter. Cert. William Colenso was a Cornish Christian missionary, he attended the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi (6 Feb 1840) - the first treaty between the British and the North Island Maoris and later wrote an account of the events at Waitangi. He was also a famous botanist.
