    1870/73: 1 d. bright red, wmk. Crown CC, perf. 12½ overprinted POSTAGE (Type 9 ) in black, a horizontal strip of six, tied to spectacular entire letter written from "Zululand" to Revd. Dr. Stewart in Love Dale, Kafraria, the adhesives all tied by Newcastle numeral "20" obliterators in black. Reverse with Crown datestamps of 'Ladysmith' (April 17), Pietermaritzburg (April 19), 'Port Elizabeth / Cape Colony' (April 26) and oval framed ALICE (April 30) all in black. A delightful entire, one of the highlights of Bill Hart's collection and extremely rare from Zululand.rnrnNote: The contents mention that Empandleni is 25 miles to the West. This would place the writer in Umfolozi (now a National Park) which this describer would recommend a visit to. He goes on to state "I was exceedingly vexed and annoyed to find that the guide I gave you deserted you at the Umhlatuze, I at once administered a sound flogging to him, which he richly deserved....The Bishop has been doing wonders in the way of gardening, he brought nearly a wagon load of plants of various sorts and has been making terraces...at Xmas 13 converts were baptised...we have received permission to erect a chapel at Ondini (Cetawayo's Great Kraal) and the Prince has further promised to send his son and the sons of some of his great men to be educated at Kwamagwagu...R.
