1854/56: 'Queen on Throne' Perkins Bacon sunken Die Proof (53 x 65 mm.), similar to the central vignette of the 1 d. value, with VICTORIA inscribed on lower step and laurel leaf surround, printed in black on thick card paper, signed at base "Humphrys" in pencil (extremely unusual and rare thus). The design was based on a watercolour drawing by Edward Henry Corbould. Scarce and most appealing, almost identical to the Die Proof offered (lot 2068) in the first Purves sale.
