    ½ peso yellow-buff, diagonal bisect, lower right diagonal half of the stamp, used on cover dated internally December 16, 1859 from Puno to Arequipa to pay the double rate of 4 dineros, tied by PUNO oval negative handstamp in black. Tiny corner clip at left of stamp of no significance, this being one of just two recorded covers bearing this rare usage - this cover too was also cancelled at Puno (Corinphila, sale 90 (Oct 1994) lot 7222, realising 27,000 chf.). Framed 'Recommandé / avec Avis de Réception' in violet at left and 'Transito / Panama' cds in blue (March 29), Barbados transit cds (April 15) and violet New Orleans transit (April 29) also on front of a fine and scarce cover to an extremely unusual destination.     1894 (Jan 15): 20 c. violet postal stationery envelope sent registered/AR to Mexico up-rated with 1886/95 1 c. violet blue, 2 c. green, 5 c. orange and 20 c. blue all tied by 'Lima/Peru' datestamps in black. Registration cachet at left and New York transit registered label above. Reverse with 'Transito / Panama' cds (Jan 24) in blue and New York transit in black (Feb 2), front with Mexico arrival cds (Feb 7) in black. Some minor imperfections but a colourful franking.
